Childers will fight for lower gas prices
While Greg Davis takes Big Oil money, Childers calls for solutions
TUPELO (Friday, April 25, 2008) – Travis Childers, the Democratic candidate for Mississippi's 1st Congressional District, talked with voters today at a Tupelo gas station about how to reduce the record high gas prices working families are facing in North Mississippi and around the nation.
While his Republican opponent, Greg Davis, has taken money from Big Oil, Childers vowed at a news conference at the gas station that he will fight in Congress to bring down skyrocketing gas prices that are hurting Mississippi's families. Childers said he will not take money from Big Oil.
“While gas prices are hitting record highs, Big Oil companies are making record profits – and I don't think that's right. In Congress, I will always stand up for working families and will work to close the loopholes for Big Oil companies and bring gas prices down,” Childers said.
Childers talked about specific solutions to bring down the cost of gas. He discussed the need to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to offer immediate relief from skyrocketing gas prices. Childers also noted the need to find commonsense solutions to make America energy independent, which would also bring new jobs to North Mississippi.
