After more than half a year of running a campaign fueled by personal attacks, negative ads, and flat-out lies, our opponent said he wanted to start over on a clean slate and run a clean campaign. In his most recent ad, he spends 30 seconds of airtime apologizing to voters for the negative campaign that he has run for much of the year. At last, it seemed that the opposition would join Travis in addressing issues that matter to working families. Unfortunately, it didn't take Greg Davis very long to get right back into the mud.
In a desperate attempt to draw attention to his failing campaign, this week the Davis campaign distributed a press release claiming that Travis Childers backed out of a debate with WREG television station in Memphis. Davis also told the DeSoto Times that he sent the Childers campaign a letter requesting three debates. The truth is, neither Travis Childers nor the Childers campaign ever agreed to participate in a debate at WREG. When the Davis campaign contacted us about participating in forums, we asked that they put their requests in writing (as we do all scheduling requests). A letter signed by Greg Davis said, ". . . I invite you to two debates prior to the November 4th General Election" in Oxford and Tupelo . Congressman Childers agreed to BOTH of the forums that the Davis camp requested. Help Travis fight back against the Davis deception with a contribution ( http://www.childersforcongress.com/tc_contribute.html ) to Childers for Congress or by volunteering ( http://www.childersforcongress.com/tc_volunteer.html ) to help on Travis's campaign.
So who's backing out of their promise now? Greg Davis should keep practicing his apologies because he's going to need them if he is going to continue his petty, negative attacks. In the meantime, Congressman Childers will continue focusing on THE REAL DEBATE - making life better for the good people of North Mississippi. Travis has done what he said he would do in Washington. Travis is doing what he said he would do in this campaign. Now, let's do our part to return him to Congress.
